Wilmington Police Department Digitizes Red Light Camera Safety Program
Since 2003, Roy H. McIntyre has served as CEO of Delaware Detailing and Cleaning Services, Inc., which provides auto detailing and commercial cleaning services in Delaware and Pennsylvania. He formerly served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in a number of countries throughout the world, including Japan, Thailand, Korea, and the Philippines. In addition to his military service, Roy H. McIntyre has nearly 10 years of experience in law enforcement, having retired from the Wilmington Police Department, which has digitized its Red Light Camera Safety Program.
With the new digital capability of its Red Light Camera Safety Program, the Wilmington Police Department (WPD) can improve enforcement of its red light laws. Specifically, the program allows the WPD to capture both still images and video of vehicles that fail to stop at a red light, including those that fail to make a complete stop before turning right on a red light.
Vehicle owners who violate the law receive a notification by mail along with three high-resolution images of the infraction. They can then log into the WPD’s red light citation public-inquiry website to watch a 10-second video clip of the violation. With 34 red light cameras throughout the city, the WPD aims to reduce the number of crashes at intersections where dangerous accidents tend to occur.
